The 2013 U.S. Chess Championship and 2013 U.S. Women’s Championship take place from 2-13 May at the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis.

The opening ceremony takes place on May 2, and the first round for both events starts at 13:00 local time (UTC-5 hours) on May 3.

The format for the main event is a 9-round Swiss with 24 players and a prize fund of $180,000. There is also a $64,000 "Fischer Prize" for a perfect 9-0 score, in honour of Bobby Fischer’s unforgettable result at the 1963-64 U.S. Championship.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to publish the FIDE-ratings on the line-up? It would relate more to the majority not living in the US.

And then I realized they were USCF ratings...

Amazed that Kamsky is playing in this just 2 days removed from finishing a super GM tournament halfway across the world! And USCF ratings are highly inflated, perhaps 50-100 points above actual FIDE playing strength.

There will be a changing of the guard with GM Shankland carpe-ing the diem.

Naka is in Norway for a huge tournament.

Kamsky played in the same Zug tournament that Nakamura did, but he is able to make this tournament.  I guess Nakamura decided he needed a rest.

Great that they expanded the field for the men's side although 3/4 of the field have approximately zero chance of contending for first.  Will be interesting to see how the bottom half of the field will fare against the top.  Out of curiousity how did Finegold qualify?  And why no Lenderman?

Women's field looking slightly stronger every year.  New players in seeds 8 and 9.

how do USCF rating differ from FIDE ratings?

Without Nakamura, it seems kind of lacking in star power.

Hopefully, a youngster like Robson, Shankland, or Hess will win it.
