Carlsen And Polgar On The London Eye

london_eye.jpgIf you were one of the many chess fans who tuned in for the live online broadcast of the opening ceremony of the London Chess Classic you will know that it started slightly later than advertised.

The reason for the delay was the London traffic holding up Magnus Carlsen and Judit Polgar who had been at a photo shoot in the London Eye (pictured right).

So, as compensation for the delay to the ceremony here are pictures from that photo shoot, as well as some other impressions of the many chess events taking place at the Olympia Conference Centre.

Today is a rest day for the players in the main competition at the London Chess Classic.  The next round is on Thursday.

History's fastest rising all-time highest rated men's and women's chess players ride history's slowest and third highest ferris wheel. The very steep admission price should at least allow you to stay the night in one of those little rotating barfatoriums.

Damn.  Judit is better looking than I remember.  I'd definitely smash it.

readers might be interested to know that nigel short plays at the bangkok chess club and participates in the bcc open. as far as i know he will be in the next bcc open april 7-14 2013 at the dusit thani hotel in pattaya, thailand. i know he is british but we also count him as one of our own down here in thailand. incidentally, if any of you are looking for a great chess vacation in thailand how about participating in the bcc open in april? if your rating is less than 2000 you can play in the lower level called "challenger". the registration fee is a paltry $50 for non-GM and $0 for GM. www.bangkokchess.com to register.

The online commentary of this event is superb.  I especially enjoy listening to GM Danny King and the FEB (Full English Breakfast) guys.  Lot's of fun!  Oh and the chess game?  How about this one?  http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1699962

In the last pic with Judit and Magnus, it looks as though Mr. Carlsen is making a move...on Judit.

He already is one. Btw, Magnus needs 2/3 to break the record, according to chess vibes. I say 3, even realizing 4 games are left, because I don't think anyone doubts he will draw with Anand.:)

if Magnus was Polgar's brother their father Lazlo Polgar would have turned him into a chess monster!

@ RuralRob - Let's hope that Lex Luthor Andrew Paulson reads Chess.com news articles then!

@ RuralRob - great idea, but it costs £480 to hire one capsule for one 30 minute revolution. To hire the whole things for a day would be an astronomical cost, even if prices could be negotiated down. Nice idea, though! Cool

Unfortunately the last time Polgar will smile at a chessboard opposite Magnus.

Armenian GM Hrant Melkumyan (Aronian´s second) has scored 4 points after 4 rounds and is leading together with IM Zhou Yang-Fan (England) at the open that is being held in London, England.
