London Chess Classic 2012 logo.jpgThe opening ceremony of the 2012 London Chess Classic took place today, and is available for replay here.

Following the conference, the players took on the Twittersphere and scored an easy victory in 22 moves!

The tournament organiser Malcolm Pein has set very high standards for media coverage of chess, at that looks set to continue this year at the excellent official website.

The opening round starts tomorrow at 14:00 local time (09:00 EST), with Luke McShane v Magnus Carlsen, Lev Aronian v Hikaru Nakamura, Vladimir Kramnik v Judit Polgar, and Gawain Jones v Mickey Adams.

Vishy Anand has a bye for the first round, and will be helping out in the commentary room.

The live move replay will be available here, and video coverage and commentary here.

I'd like Anand to discover a flash of his old form and win, just for nostalgia's sake. Vamos Vishy!!

@ waltervettivel I've not forgotten, but with so many other events going on at the moment, there's barely enough time to report on them all.

    Report now up here.

It's a shame that the women's championship final is clashing with other major chess events. In an ideal world with a proper chess timetable, this shouldn't happen!

It also doesn't help when the official website doesn't even publish a report on the final game! Surprised

I wonder why the twittersphere did not go with 21...Nh5 allowing the more stylish 22.Rg7+ (yes I know 22.Rh8# so what?)

Great tournament, great photos, London.  What's not to love? <3

PS. The Olympia Centre is one of those indoor venues you can tour on Google Maps.  Just sayin'.

Wouldn't it be a hoot if Anand won? What with public opinion having him nothing more than over the hill and all.

    Just sayin' Cool
