Mariya Muzychuk Wins Ukrainian Women's Championship

Mariya Muzychuk 2.jpgThe 72nd Ukrainian Women's Championship took place from 25 September - 3 October in Kharkiv. 

The format was a 10-player single round-robin with the top seed being Kateryna Lahno.

It was a very strong event for a national women's chess championship and three players finished level with 6½ points: Mariya Muzychuk, Kateryna Lahno and Anna Ushenina.

Mariya Muzychuk (pictured) was awarded the title on superior tie-breaks. 

The time control was 30 moves in 90 minutes with a 30 second increment.

    Dolzhikova has lots of pawns, and some of the pawns will be queens, and on that game, Dolzhikova played very well, but her rating is not as good as Muzychuk.

    Only a few countries -- Russia, Ukraine, China, and Georgia -- have more than a handful of women rated 2400+ FIDE, so their national championships are strong indeed when the majority of those women participate.
